OCTOBER BAKING CHALLENGE

October 2020 Sally’s Baking Challenge Recipe: Baked Apples with Brown Sugar Oat Crumble (recipe coming tomorrow)

Honeycrisp! Granny Smith! Fuji!

The October Sally’s Baking Challenge is a fun & simple way to use all your fresh apples. I chose this recipe for the October Baking Challenge because it’s quick, can be eaten right out of the oven, only requires a few ingredients, serves a small family, can easily be halved or doubled, and highlights the natural flavor of apples. And it’s the perfect opportunity to use your apples if you go apple picking this month. Kids will love to help and it’s a recipe free from common allergens like eggs, gluten (use GF oats), and nuts (pecans are optional).

Lots to love about this one.

Let’s Review the September Baking Challenge

September 2020 Sally’s Baking Challenge Recipe: Cinnamon Swirl Quick Bread

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS…

We had over 2,000 participants in September, the MOST we’ve ever had since I launched Sally’s Baking Challenge 3 years ago. We received dozens of entry emails every day and the wonderful reviews on this recipe were continuously rolling in. Thank you so much for taking the time to enter this baking challenge!

The cinnamon swirl bread was certainly an easier recipe than past challenges, but I wanted you to perfect a classic quick bread recipe like this. It’s an “anytime” recipe you can keep in your back pocket that will serve you well when you need something (anything!) sweet and homemade. Some baked this recipe into muffins & mini loaves, some added apples or a chai spice blend, and some baked the recipe into a bundt cake. No matter how you baked it, one thing remained consistent: that sticky and thick cinnamon swirl.

Talk about baking perfection.

One of my favorite recipe reviews came from reader Gabby:

“This was a delicious & straightforward recipe! My family especially loved the cinnamon swirl surprise in the middle! Can’t wait to have another piece with my coffee in the morning!!”

We gathered as many cinnamon swirl quick bread photo entries as we could and included them below. (Email is the only way to guarantee your photo will be included!)
